Another Wine Blog: What is a wine snob?

  • Adam Hill · 11 months ago
Beautifully put. I, too, am all over the map with wine (and food, and music), liking everything from floral syrups to tar, slate, leather and diesel (Rieslings!). I fear that this nation's disdain for genuine learnedness (and with the incongruous sportsman-like bumper sticker cheering of honor roll achievers!) will always accentuate what we "snobs" experience, though many of us passionately love to teach others about wine, helping them to develop their own tastes.

    Cheers (@Bakcheia)

Astute observation on the honor roll achiever bumper stickers!

Thanks, Adam, and nicely put. It makes you wonder how we got to a place where the educated are mocked and the ignorant considered the salt of the earth.

I didn't used to be a food snob. Then I married a gourmet cook--who has now ruined my food life when I am not eating at home ;) Everyone else must reach such a high bar!

I was just reading "Everyday Drinking" by Kingsley Amis and he has a quote from someone else I thought was apropos:

"Wine snob--a man or woman who drinks the label and the price" - Olof Wijk

Hey DP, how's it going? Great quote, and a great reminder to me that I have not read that book, and really need to. Thanks!
